We seem to be addicted to wearing anything we can ge our hands on to cover up our natural smell. Whether its body deodorant, scented moisturizing cream or the finest perfume, almost all of us use these products everyday and have quite a selection in our bathroom cabinet.
The king of the scents is perfume and cologne with millions of bottles bought and sold each year but what is the difference between cologne and perfume and should it make a difference as to which you buy?
The only difference you need to be aware of is that perfume is the stronger product, meaning its scent last longer. Although it costs more perfume definitely gives more bang per buck and should be your preference if you have a choice between the two.
To understand deeper than this we need to investigate the way in which the products are made.
Many years ago French perfumers discovered that fragrances faded over time and more importantly, that certain fragrances faded faster than others. This prompted them to create products which were layered and therefor change slightly as time goes on. Your perfume will smell slightly different but still great when you get home from work than it did when you put it on first thing in the morning.
Cologne on the other hand only uses a single scent and so wears off much more quickly. The best way to use such products, rather than to spray on extra, is to carry a little spray bottle with you when you go out to allow you to top up when the need arises.
Obviously its preferable that you use perfume if you have the option but the prohibitive price of many brands may make this financially unlikely. If that’s the case don’t be afraid to use cologne, just take care to use it sparingly.
